{"id":1522,"date":"2011-05-04T02:38:31","date_gmt":"2011-05-04T02:38:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.randybaldwin.com\/family\/?p=1522"},"modified":"2011-05-04T02:38:31","modified_gmt":"2011-05-04T02:38:31","slug":"sleep-lottery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.randybaldwin.com\/family\/2011\/05\/sleep-lottery\/","title":{"rendered":"Sleep Lottery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apparently it is impossible to win the baby sleep lottery twice (and if any of you have hit it twice&#8230;don&#8217;t tell me.\u00a0 Ignorance is bliss at this point).<\/p>\n<p>Reed was the &#8216;mythical child&#8217; (according to Sarah).\u00a0 He slept through the night starting at\u00a07 weeks old and never looked back.\u00a0 In my new mom foolishness I thought this was totally normal.\u00a0 I couldn&#8217;t understand why some children who were 8 and 10 months old who still didn&#8217;t sleep through the night.\u00a0 God is laughing at that now.<\/p>\n<p>Ali is a sucky sleeper.\u00a0 She is totally capable of sleeping through the night and definitely doesn&#8217;t <em>need<\/em> to eat during the night.\u00a0 She sleeps through the night maybe once or twice a week.\u00a0 Too bad she has also been known to wake up at 11, 2:30 and 5:30 all in the same night.<\/p>\n<p>We just can&#8217;t get that girl into a good routine. For the last week or so\u00a0we have been very diligent about trying to create a bedtime routine for her.\u00a0 I feed her while Reed is getting his bath and getting ready for bed.\u00a0 Then Randy gives Ali a bath.\u00a0 Usually she is ready to settle down and go to sleep&#8230;but not every night.\u00a0 And usually she will sleep until 4:30 or so&#8230;but not every night.\u00a0 Some nights she will only settle down if we wrap her up in a receiving blanket and put her in the swing.\u00a0 Other nights she just kicks and kicks like a crazy person, so we put her in her crib.<\/p>\n<p>Just this past week I felt like I had cracked the sleep code.\u00a0 She had woken up in the night and I changed her diaper.\u00a0 Before I could get her jammies back on she was out cold on her changing table pad.\u00a0 I took this as a sign and just moved her (on the changing pad) into her crib.\u00a0 She never woke up again the whole night.\u00a0 Before anyone passes judgement I realize this is probably not an approved sleeping position&#8230;but I don&#8217;t care.\u00a0 She was on her back and sound asleep.\u00a0 She didn&#8217;t move all night.<\/p>\n<p>This position worked well for several nights, but last night she wouldn&#8217;t settle down and it was back to the swing.<\/p>\n<p>This little girl is already a diva and she isn&#8217;t even 4 months old yet!!!\u00a0 Oh yeah, she also sucks at keeping the pacifier in her mouth!<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few of the many sleep positions she works&#8230;<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery galleryid-1522 gallery-columns-2 gallery-size-thumbnail'><dl class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<dt class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='http:\/\/blogs.randybaldwin.com\/family\/files\/2011\/05\/IMG_3942.jpg'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.randybaldwin.com\/family\/files\/2011\/05\/IMG_3942-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" aria-describedby=\"gallery-1-1525\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/dt>\n\t\t\t\t<dd class='wp-caption-text gallery-caption' id='gallery-1-1525'>\n\t\t\t\tThe changing pad in the crib\n\t\t\t\t<\/dd><\/dl><dl class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<dt class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='http:\/\/blogs.randybaldwin.com\/family\/files\/2011\/05\/IMG_0740.jpg'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.randybaldwin.com\/family\/files\/2011\/05\/IMG_0740-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" aria-describedby=\"gallery-1-1526\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/dt>\n\t\t\t\t<dd class='wp-caption-text gallery-caption' id='gallery-1-1526'>\n\t\t\t\tThe swing\n\t\t\t\t<\/dd><\/dl><br style=\"clear: both\" \/>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Apparently it is impossible to win the baby sleep lottery twice (and if any of you have hit it twice&#8230;don&#8217;t tell me.\u00a0 Ignorance is bliss at this point).
