I hate all condiments. At first I thought it was vinegar that I hated (which would explain why I love cucumbers, hate pickles; love tomato sauce, hate ketchup). Now I think it is also a texture thing. I can’t imagine eating a blob of mustard, mayonnaise, cream cheese, sour cream…yuck! Sadly, this food aversion means I (like Sarah) won’t eat chicken salad and lots of creamy dips. Just grosses me out.

2. All my life I have been a bad girlfriend to other women. I tend to get along with men better than women and I thought that was just how my friendships would be the rest of my life. Only in the last few years have a really learned the value of solid girlfriends. Now I wish I hadn’t lost so much time and so many friends over the years. Girlfriends are the best!!!

3. I am strangely happy at my job. I have lots of friends at work and enjoy what I’m doing. That has never happened to me before and it makes the decisions of what to do once baby comes very challenging. After searching for 5 years, can I really give up the most enjoyable job I’ve had? Not a question I’m ready to tackle just yet.

4. I’m also weird about Christmas morning. I don’t like to go anywhere on Christmas day. My entire life I have politely agreed to attend family Christmas gatherings on the day because I had to. All the while I vowed that when I had children I wouldn’t force the same thing on them. (To clarify, it isn’t that I don’t want to see family and celebrate Christmas, quite the opposite. I just want to do the family gatherings on a different day. Christmas should be about staying home and enjoying each other without having to get dressed if you don’t want to.) My aunt has said that when her kids were little she told family that they were welcome at her house, but they weren’t leaving their house. Seems like a great idea to me.

5. I love to entertain. not sure where this comes from, maybe its because my mom didn’t like to do it that I have developed an affinity for it. This is how I show people love. I’m not so good with the physical showcases of love, but I will surely cook for you if I love you!

6. After spending the weekend with my grandmother (she stayed at our house) I started to understand some of my weird traits…because I’m just like her!! She asks tons of questions (like my 800 questions a day quota), she needs to know what’s going on and what the plans are (this is totally opposite of both my parents!!) and she gets very frustrated when people don’t do what they commit to do. I possess all of these seemingly inane traits which wouldn’t be too strange except that no one in my family has these traits. It was wonderful to finally figure out why I’m so particular and why I’m so bossy. It comes straight from Gramma K!!!

7. I’m beginning to get nervous about having a boy. The more time I spend with little boys the more I realize I truly know nothing about raising them. I’m such a planner that I know I will find a way to prepare myself (or at least prepare myself that I can’t prepare for this kind of miracle), and I know that we will be fine. But I’m more nervous than I thought I would be. Should be quite an adventure!!

Julie

Summer tagged me too… 1.
