Moving Day Pics

Almost two full months after our apartment building is struck by lightning and fried by computer’s motherboard and CPU…mother nature can do a number on electronics. The apartment building manager actually said the surge travelled throughout the complex and took out other electronic devices in other buildings..it even took out the gate to the complex. That was a great bonus on moving day when we didn’t have to worry about gate access.

Now we are up and running with new pictures to prove it, but first, read the story…

The week before we closed on the house and moved, I had to be in Dallas for training. Julie had all the house stuff covered, but we still had a lot of little things to pack so she would try to do that while I was gone. Well, the second night I was gone she played in our volleyball league and hyperextended her knee. That put her on crutches and put a major kink in our plans. Diana Beth stayed with her that night and helped when I couldn’t be there.

While I was away the work at home continued to stack up. J wasn’t exactly bedridden, but it was painful to be moving about. I had to remind her to take care of herself first and the work would get done…then I had to prepare myself for the work that was about to be done.

The night I got home was going to be the last night in the apartment. A severe thunderstorm rolled through with pea-sized hail. I prayed that lightning would NOT strike twice! The wind did knock down a few pots on the patio, which made for extra cleanup in the morning, but no more damage done.

Closing on the house came and went in a blur. Apparently it was very easy for the title company. They kept raving about how J had everything for them before they needed it and that every mortgage banking office should work that way. I signed where they told me to and didn’t get a lot of the explaination that other customers get…it’s great to have a wife “in the business”.

The rest of the day was packing and moving. J and DB started at the apartment while I met Mr. Reasonover at the Weaver’s house get the fridge. Thank God he was there! We used the back of the tool truck to load the fridge, but more importantly was the dolly he borrowed from one of his customers up the street…out first one had 2 flat tires! After that ordeal, I met Greg and Christopher at the storage unit. The 3 of us with our trucks were able to take out the storage unit in record time. The goal was to spend the first night in the house.

Just like the night before, we had a severe thunderstorm and some hail. It was much more bearable than in the apartment with hail beating down on the large windows.

The new carpet was installed the next morning. Consequently we had to stack everything in the garage to keep it out of thier way.

Beverly and Britany started at the apartment and Dad came over to help me with the washer and dryer. We got the rest of the furniture when Chris and Allison Berry showed up along with the Reasonovers.

Two FULL days of moving and packing. We certainly could not have done it without family and friends. Moving a short distance is still moving…it’s not any easier, just faster results.

Thanks to everyone that lent a hand or two.
