The countdown has already begun… the countdown to “The day it’s no longer about US”. Every first-time expecting couple knows what that means, and every parent (new and old) remembers what it was like: the time when there was just the two of you and nothing else mattered. (Often referred to as B.C. or “Before Children”)
The Christmas is going to be the last that Julie and I have together where it’s only about us. It sounds selfish, but my perspective is actually nostalgic. I recognize this opportunity and want to make the most of the time we have left to ourselves before we give the majority of our time to raising our first child. In fact, our last vacation is this week in Mexico for a friend’s wedding and our anniversary.
One of the projects that Julie has wanted for some time now is to add trim around our internal window frames. Our house just had drywall around the windows, and not even a window sill. So, I recruited my sister, Beverly “The Architect”, and our Christmas present to Julie was to frame our windows.
There was one requirement to do this project: See Randy’s Early Christmas Present. That’s how this works… she gets a project, I get a tool.
Beverly and I took Friday and Saturday of the Thanksgiving weekend to frame and trim 7 windows in our house to the point they are ready to be painted. The results are awesome, but realistically normal since this is how windows are SUPPOSED to look.
Many thanks to my sister for taking the time out of a holiday weekend to help me manage this project. She is a great project partner and a great professional resource for those of us that would have just nailed a couple boards to the wall and called it a day. I would not have done it without her!
