Julie has been amazingly persistent with her updates to this blog, so much so that if she leaves me with anything to post about, it is the scraps leftover that she tossed aside. I’m proud of her. After all, she spends the most time with Reed at this time in his life and should rightfully have the most to say.
My other excuse is that our house has been in a constant state of change since we got home from the hospital with our little bundle of joy, but more so recently when almost EVERY appliance we have seemed to conspire against us at the same time! First, the (electric) stove started losing burners. Then the water heater started leaking. The microwave took up smoking. And the dishwasher spray arm spun off and melted. We chipped away at each of these over the span of a month, all the while Julie stayed at home with a kitchen in complete disarray. After all is said and done, we are now sporting a new (gas) stove, microwave/vent-hood, water heater and fixed dishwasher. Thank goodness for savings because it got a workout!
I digress… that was long winded to simply tell you what I’ve been doing these days when I am not hanging out with my son and taking our usual walks in the neighborhood.
Reed is 6 weeks old now. Somewhere right after 4 weeks, the little guy beefed up and changed from newborn to baby, almost overnight. All of the sudden he was more sturdy and durable to hold and had gained a few fat rolls. He can hold his head steady, but any lean to one side or another and he is a regular bobble head.
Opening Day
I love baseball. I love the game as much as I love the culture that surrounds the game. I love the simplicity of grabbing a glove and a ball to play catch. It is one of my fondest memories growing up in a yard big enough that my dad would catch for me pitching, or throw me some fielding practice. I cry like a baby at the end of Field of Dreams when Kevin Costner asks his dad to play catch. Needless to say, I cannot wait to share those same memories with Reed. (God forbid if he does not grow up to be an athlete, he at least will NOT throw like a girl if I can help it!)
I’m a sucker for the moment, so for this year’s opening of baseball season, I took the opportunity to dress Reed in his first Houston Astros outfit, courtesy of Aunt Beverly. We even invited Aunts Beverly and Britany over to watch the game and eat dinner (baseball is a family thing, you see). The game and the get-together was much more for my benefit, but if the kid grows up to love baseball too, he’ll certainly appreciate this picture with Pops and his first baseball merch.
Easter
Easter weekend was a kid-filled event this year… and ours sat in his car seat for most of it. All the hoopla was surrounding our group of friends and all their kids that are now walkin, talkin, full-blown kids.
On Saturday we wet to an Easter party hosted by some friends where there were about 15-20 kids under the age of 7 and a backyard FULL of plastic eggs. I swear an elementary school bus unloaded there. It was madness at times, but we were there for the kids so we kept it all in perspective. Reed was a obviously a spectator this year, but rest assured, he has already plotted his plan of attack come next year (or maybe the year after). Nonetheless, we had a great time and even got his picture with the Easter Bunny.
Sunday was family time. We went to our usual 9:30 service and then The Reasonovers came to our house for brunch. It was simple and sweet. That gave us a bit of time before we met my family and the Baldwin side at Mama B’s for dinner.
